Former NBA star Kevin Garnett believes the Los Angeles Lakers will move Anthony Davis in the summer if he fails to lead them without veteran superstar LeBron James.

“Bron [James] hurts his foot, he’s down for two weeks. I’m anticipating that this is the time where I think the Lakers are sitting back to see the Anthony Davis project,” Garnett said on his ‘KG Certified’ podcast. “And I think in these next two weeks, this is featured Anthony Davis to see what he can do in two weeks to maneuver the Lakers.”

The former NBA champion highlighted: “If he doesn’t make a pivotal shift if this don’t make a pivotal move, or it won’t really move anything? Lord, I think they’re gonna come off the Anthony Davis project and move him this summer.”

Garnett’s comments on the back of his speculations that Davis and James weren’t seeing eye-to-eye. On his part, the Lakers big man seems to know what’s at stake as he dished out a solid performance against the Golden State Warriors.

Davis recorded 39 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists as LA pipped Golden State 113-105 and continue their quest to land a playoff berth as the regular season inches to a close.

Anthony Davis Believes The Lakers Will Rely On Him To Make More Plays In LeBron James’ Absence

Anthony Davis is clearly aware of the team’s requirements in James’ absence. His dominant performance is what is expected of him every game going forward as the team looks to seal a playoff berth.

James will be re-evaluated in three weeks after his ankle injury against the Dallas Mavericks, and with D’Angelo Russell battling with ankle issues as well, the onus is on the center to lead the Purple and Gold.

“Obviously with Bron out,” Davis told the media in the aftermath of the win (via the LA Times). “The team’s gonna rely on me more to make plays for myself, for others.”

After their win on Sunday night against the Warriors, the Lakers, now 31-34 are in a virtual tie for the 10th spot in the West. They have the same record as the Utah Jazz but are in 11th place because the latter holds the head-to-head advantage.

The Lakers will play the Memphis Grizzlies next, followed by a clash against the Toronto Raptors. Only time will tell if Davis can shoulder the heavy load and push the Lakers to the postseason.
