Kristaps Porzingis Sends Warning To The NBA: “Around Christmas Time, After Christmas Is Really When We’re Going To Take Off.”

The Dallas Mavericks have not started their season the way that they had hoped. Despite the initial optimism around the hiring of Jason Kidd, the Mavs have struggled to stay consistent, and have not had a good run of form in the first month of the new NBA season.

But the Mavericks are expecting a turnaround, and Kristaps Porzingis has given them a date; Christmas. Porzingis believes that from Christmas day onward, the Mavericks will be in full form, and thus become a problem for the rest of the NBA as they go on to find their rhythm.

“Around Christmas time, after Christmas is really when we’re going to take off.”

Perhaps Porzingis knows something that the rest of the NBA does not. It is a bold prediction from Porzingis, given how the Mavericks have played so far this season. But his unabashed confidence will be a good sign for Mavericks fans, who have been happy with how Porzingis has played this season.

For the season, Porzingis is averaging 19.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game. Porzingis has been a lot healthier this season than in years past and is looking like his old self, the one that became such an exciting prospect to pair alongside Luka Doncic.

But despite Porzingis’ good play, the Mavericks have been struggling. They’ve lost their last 2 games and currently have an 11-11 record. Much of their problem has to do with defense, and their best player – Luka Doncic. The Mavericks have conceded the most points in the NBA when Luka Doncic is on the court.

Perhaps Porzingis is hoping to speak this good form into existence come Christmas time. Given the Mavs are playing the Jazz on that day, a statement win could be the thing that helps them build momentum and go on a run that helps establish them as a genuine playoff threat.
