Being an NBA player is the dream for all the athletes who play basketball out there. Apart from helping them in getting fame and money, it also provides them a platform to speak honestly about their thoughts. It could range from players speaking about social injustice or simply sharing their thoughts about their community.
Considering most NBA players in the league belong to the African-American community, it certainly encourages others in the community to try to achieve their dreams. One such player from the black community who achieved his dream was the former first-overall draft pick, Kwame Brown.
Brown is most famously known for his time with Michael Jordan and the Washington Wizards. But that is all secondary for Brown, as he recently spoke freely about what he doesn’t like about black society.
Kwame Brown Explains What The Black Community Is Doing Wrong
Brown recently made an appearance on ‘The Pivot’ podcast, where he discussed a plethora of things during the episode. It varied from his early struggles in life to what it was like to share the court with Kobe Bryant. And amidst all that, Brown revealed he thinks the black community tends to talk a lot about sex, drugs, murder, and more.

“There’s a song ‘Sexy little B sexy little H, let a play your throat babies, I’m trying to bust all on you.’ We monetize black males that talk like I talk on the internet. Our culture, I was trying to show them our culture. 30-40 thousand, 60 thousand people watching me curse people out. Just because they’re used to seeing that. It was like a number one draft pick doing it. So it’s new, it’s fresh. … We wanna hear black males talk ignorant, talk about killing. We have Beyonce. Now I love Beyonce. We had Beyonce say, ‘Church Girls Go Twerk.’ That’s crazy.
I don’t see no other culture, no other race talking about sex, drugs, and murder the way our culture does. … How can you be so upset by a former athlete talking like this, when you have rappers that you’re paying millions of dollars and they’re influencing the kids more than me. They are gonna talk to the kids more than me in a sit-down meeting talking like this. Kids don’t listen to people who talk like this. I did that so they could listen and now I can sneak in just a little bit of juice.
Brown didn’t hold back when explaining the things which he doesn’t like about his own culture. But he was questioning the reasons why the black community tends to talk about these topics so much. Hopefully, the fans will understand Brown’s point and will not unnecessarily call him out.
