Facing a summer of tough decisions, you can bet that Lakers GM Rob Pelinka will consider all his options before making a roster move. While we don’t yet know how LeBron James will proceed with his basketball future, the uncertainty looming around his career has thrown a curveball into the whole plan.

In a recent chat with the media, Rob Pelinka promised to keep the young core and made it clear that his priorities were to re-sign dudes like Rui Hachimura, Austin Reaves, and Jarred Vanderbilt.

“I’d say this resoundingly clear,” said Pelinka. “Our intentions are to keep our core of young guys together.”

Hilariously, former Lakers swingman Kyle Kuzma saw the news and couldn’t help but think back on the promise Pelinka once made to him while he was a member of the Lakers.

Kuzma was once a treasured member of the Lakers, and he was considered untouchable for years before he was ultimately sent packing after the 2020 title run. There are no hard feelings between Kuzma and his former squad, of course, but you can’t blame the guy for doubting that Pelinka will stay true to his word.

When it comes to the Lakers, nothing is off the table for them, and it seems they will do whatever it takes to construct the best roster possible.

Where Will Kuzma Sign This Summer

Kuz was traded as part of the Russell Westbrook deal, and we all saw how that turned out for L.A. In all likelihood, things would have played out much smoother had the Lakers still had Kuz instead of Westbrook.

This offseason, the Lakers will have a chance to rectify that mistake if they re-sign Kuzma and have him rejoin the crew in Los Angeles.

I’m just trying to be myself. I’m trying to get better every year,” said Kyle on his upcoming free agency. “It’s not about money, I’m going to get paid regardless anywhere [I go] and here, too. It’s about can I come into work every day and be the best version of myself, can I help lead guys, can I make other players better, can I light up rooms. All those things matter when you’re trying to be successful,” he said.

The Lakers clearly have plans in place for the upcoming offseason, and it will be interesting to see what moves they make in preparation for next season.

But don’t be shocked if most or all of those young guys are on still on the Lakers next season.
