Kyle Lowry Explains Why He Decided To Join The Heat: “For Me, It’s Only Championships Or Bust.”

The Kyle Lowry move to Miami was long-anticipated. The talented point guard was linked with the team since last season. After the Raptors failed to move him at the trade deadline, Lowry found a new home in the Heat this past offseason, joining his good friend Jimmy Butler in South Beach.

Lowry tasted the glory in 2019, winning the NBA championship with the Toronto Raptors. He’s keen to do the same with the Miami Heat, who reached that stage in 2020, losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Orlando bubble.

Both the point guard and his new team are looking for revenge next year after a 2020/21 season that didn’t go as they expected. Talking on Pull Up with CJ McCollum, Lowry explained why he decided to join the Heat, making it clear that he’s looking to win a championship with the Floridian franchise.

“For me, it’s only championships or bust. Going to Miami that was a situation where I feel like this is what they wanna do. I have a close friend, Jimmy Butler, there and I feel like Miami, that’s what they wanna do. It’s about winning championships.”

“If you aren’t playing for championships, what are you playing for? And that’s the only thought process that went into my free agency is where do I go to become a champion.”

The Heat put together a competitive team, adding Lowry, PJ Tucker and re-signing Victor Oladipo. Added to Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, this time can have a chance to compete against the top teams in the East, Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers.

Miami comes from getting swept by the Bucks in the 2021 playoff. This team is still talented and can have a deep playoff run, but the competition won’t be easy in a stacked Eastern Confe
