Kyrie Irving Got Mad At Trash-Talking Grizzlies Big Man During Game: “You Can’t Guard Me, Stop It.”

Kyrie Irving wasn't pleased when Xavier Tillman tried trash-talking with him during Mavericks vs. Grizzlies.

The Dallas Mavericks fell to a shocking loss last night to a short-handed Grizzlies squad, despite Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic combining for over 60 points. During the game, Grizzlies big man Xavier Tillman was talking trash to Kyrie after a blocked shot. This led to Irving putting the 24-year-old big man in his place.

Xavier Tillman: “Get that sh*t out of here!”

Kyrie Irving: “You’re proud of that sh*t?

Xavier Tillman: “That’s what I thought… I’m locked in, I promise you that.”

Xavier Tillman: “We’re good. I’m in my 13th year, you better get it together. Bro is talking crazy like this isn;t the sh*t I do. You can’t guard me, stop it… I can talk and hoop, bro. I’m built for this sh*t.”

Xavier Tillman: “Let’s do it”

Tillman ended the game with a very strong 14 points and 11 rebounds performance along with two blocks. Irving definitely outplayed Tillman comfortably, dropping 33 points with eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals. It was pointless, as the Grizzlies managed to win this game comfortably.

Luka Doncic played through the game with ankle issues, having been on the injury report with ankle swelling the day before the game. He’s been ruled out of the Mavericks game against the Knicks on Thursday after his injury status worsened to a sprained ankle.

The Mavericks Can’t Be Top-Six Without Luka Doncic

Last night’s game was a must-win for Dallas as they cannot afford to lose games like that when every win makes such a big difference in the West. Yesterday’s win would’ve made them the fifth seed, instead, now they are the seventh seed and could fall further back if the Pelicans beat the Warriors tonight. If Doncic is hurt for any time, the Mavericks are in trouble.

Kyrie has been a great presence for Dallas, averaging 27.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists over his last five games. He won’t be able to carry them to wins like Doncic was in December, but that heavy load has impacted his body. The Mavericks may have to make a splash in the trade market a little earlier than expected and improve their roster now to keep their head above water for the next month.

Pascal Siakam’s biggest suitors are the Sacramento Kings and it’s been made clear they have no shot at retaining him in the summer. Maybe this is the perfect opportunity for Dallas to give the Raptors an offer, keeping in mind that Siakam will test free agency, similar to Kyrie last season. He was traded as an expiring contract, went into free agency, and then re-signed in Dallas.

Siakam might just be the answer for the Mavericks right now, as he and Irving can easily make the team strong enough to withstand a period of Doncic being injured. Missing the playoffs again would be a disaster for Dallas, so they need to address their lack of top-tier talent soon.
