The media and Kyrie Irving have always had a tense relationship, Kyrie has felt misunderstood and misrepresented at times, while the media have portrayed him as a bit of a diva. There is some truth to both sides of the story here, and while there seems to be some mutual disdain, these two entities have to interact with one another often. And it’s nice at times to see it work as it should.

Kyrie Irving has been letting his basketball do the talking recently, and his numbers are good enough to warrant serious All-Star consideration. Irving is playing the role next to Kevin Durant perfectly, and it’s been a winning formula for the Nets. Even Joe Tsai, who has had his problems with Irving, has been acknowledging him on social media, as he did following Kyrie’s explosive putback dunk against the San Antonio Spurs.

Kyrie Irving Had A Lot To Say About His Dunk Against The San Antonio Spurs

Winning cures everything, as the saying goes. And it seems his prowess is making Kyrie Irving willing to talk to the media. Speaking after the game, Kyrie happily opened up on how it happened while talking to the media.

“I’m like this close to getting tired of people downplaying my athleticism at times in that locker room. I’m like this close. On a serious note, I’m glad I can have those types of plays at times to galvanize the group. Glad it went in. Good timing.

“I’ve been working on my body for the last year and a half two years, especially recovering from that traumatic ankle injury I had during the 2021 playoffs, I just felt like I didn’t have my feet underneath me at the end of last season so coming into this season I definitely put an emphasis on being more on my toes and getting stronger and my foundational base. If you wanted to know the scientific aspect of that.”

Kyrie Irving is lauded for his skills, but clearly, he feels like his athleticism is underrated. Irving has always been more about speed than explosion but he can dunk it when he puts his mind to it. Irving is in a good space right now, and as such, the Nets will be hoping that his resurgence can carry them to some playoff success this season.
