There is no doubt that for many fans, scoring is the most fun part of basketball. There’s a certain excitement that comes with watching a superstar have an explosive scoring night. That excitement is what many people experienced while watching Donovan Mitchell get 71 points against the Chicago Bulls recently, and it is clear that he put the NBA world on notice with his game.

Recently, the Twitter page StatMuse shared an interesting fact in the aftermath of Donovan Mitchell’s 71-point performance. The only three players to drop 70 or more points in a game in the last 25 years are Kobe Bryant, Donovan Mitchell, and Devin Booker. The thing that connects all of them is that they are all shooting guards that were selected with the 13th pick in the NBA Draft.

There’s no doubt that this is an uncanny fact. While there is obviously nothing special about the 13th overall pick in the draft, this is absolutely a crazy coincidence. All three players here are capable of scoring on all three levels and producing at high volume, which is why they had those special 70-point nights. There have only been a select few players to ever score 70 points in a game, and Donovan Mitchell joined some elite company after the Cavaliers’ game against the Bulls.

Kyrie Irving Knew Donovan Mitchell Would Dominate

Sometimes, players know when their peers are about to have a fantastic game. Kyrie Irving has recently revealed that he knew Donovan Mitchell was “locked in” for the game against the Chicago Bulls after the duo played some Call of Duty together.

Kyrie Irving says he knew Donovan Mitchell was “locked in” tonight after playing Call of Duty with him earlier, per

Obviously, Kyrie Irving did not predict that Donovan Mitchell would end up with 71 points and 11 assists. However, he knew that Donovan Mitchell was going to ball out, and it is clear that Donovan Mitchell was the primary reason the Cleveland Cavaliers won that game.

There is no doubt that the Cleveland Cavaliers have been a good team under Donovan Mitchell’s leadership, and they currently have a 24-14 record. They are a dark horse to make it out of the Eastern Conference, and they could even end up winning a championship.

Hopefully, we see Donovan Mitchell lead the Cleveland Cavaliers deep into the playoffs. They definitely have the talent to compete against anybody, and we’ll see how they do in the future.
