Donovan Mitchell is one of the best shooting guards in the league today. He is well-known for his 3PT shooting and shot creation ability. Currently, Donovan Mitchell is averaging 29.5 PPG, 3.9 RPG, and 4.6 APG for the Cleveland Cavaliers while shooting an astounding 42.4% from beyond the arc.
The Cleveland Cavaliers traded for Donovan Mitchell this offseason as a win-now move, and the move has clearly worked out for them. They are currently the 3rd seed in the Eastern Conference with a 20-11 record.
Recently, Donovan Mitchell expressed his belief that the Cleveland Cavaliers can win a championship in the future if they do it “as a group”. He also expressed that they still have “a way to go” before winning at the highest level. Marc Spears of Andscape relayed the news.
Being to the Finals four times in a row is greatness. Kevin’s been a part of that and he’s the last one left of that group. For us, we’re not LeBron James. But as a collective we can ultimately get there if we do it as a group. And we want to bring back another championship for this city.
Our fans are passionate. We have the skill. We have the ability to do that. But we have a way to go. We have to do the work, but we play with that intention set. We don’t play to say, ‘Oh, let’s make it to the playoffs or the second round.’ Our goal is to win the championship and play to the best of our ability. The city has seen it once and they’ll hopefully see it again.
There is no doubt that the Cleveland Cavaliers have a lot of talent on the roster. Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen made the All-Star team for the Cavaliers last season, and Donovan Mitchell was a perennial All-Star with the Utah Jazz. This team has a high ceiling, and we’ll see how well they do in the future.
Donovan Mitchell Should Be In MVP Talks
There is no doubt that Donovan Mitchell has been having a fantastic year, and some believe that he should be in the MVP talks. In fact, previously, an NBA radio host revealed why he should be ahead of someone like Anthony Davis in the MVP conversation.
“All this MVP talk that is resurrected around Anthony Davis for the last week or so… he’s playing for the 13th seed in the West. Mitchell is playing for the third seed. People are talking about Anthony Davis ‘oh is he back in the MVP race’ he is playing for the 13th seed. Mitchell is playing for the 3rd seed in the Eastern Conference and he’s averaging more points and assists than Anthony Davis.
It remains to be seen if Donovan Mitchell does end up being in serious consideration for the MVP award in the future. He is definitely a talented player, and this year has clearly been Mitchell’s best thus far.
Though things didn’t work out on the Utah Jazz with Rudy Gobert from a basketball standpoint, Donovan Mitchell has another chance to win a championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Hopefully, he is able to do so, and we’ll see how far Donovan Mitchell can lead them this year.
