Kyrie Irving was on the receiving end of negative chants from Celtics fans but wanted even more energy from them. Ahead of tip-off for Game 2 of the NBA Finals, the Celtics fans filling up the T.D. Garden started chanting ‘Kyrie Sucks’. Irving, rather than getting rattled, actually started to wave his hands up and down, gesturing for the fans to get even louder.

Kyrie Irving has had a lot of fun at the expense of Celtics fans since the series began. He hilariously claimed that he expected the arena to be louder when booing him during Game 1. Irving hasn’t let the Celtics fanbase negatively affect his emotions so far. But they may have impacted his performances.

Irving had a poor showing in Game 1, scoring just 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. He went a mere 6-19 from the field. It was an uncharacteristically poor performance from Irving, who upped his game in the playoffs and became a reliable co-star for Luka Doncic during the postseason.

Tonight, Irving has looked much better, even though the Celtics hold a 54-51 lead over the Celtics. Going into halftime, Irving has scored 10 points for the Celtics and will be looking to elevate his game in the second half, especially in the fourth quarter, which has been a strong suit for Irving in the playoffs this year.

Irving currently leads the NBA playoffs in fourth-quarter scoring, with 127 points across the offseason. The next best has been his teammate Luka Doncic, with 114 points. Their figures show why it is important that the Mavericks at least keep things close between the Celtics till the end of the game.

Irving has averaged 22.2 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.8 rebounds in the 2024 NBA playoffs. He will need to get back to putting up similar figures if he wants to help lead the Mavericks to an NBA championship this year.

Kyrie Irving Opened Up About Relationship With Celtics Fans

Kyrie Irving spoke candidly in a recent interview about the relationship he has with Celtics fans. Irving noted that his time with the Celtics saw a lot of things going wrong. But despite everything the fans do to him on the court, whenever he walks on the streets of Boston, he finds a lot of love and kindness, from some fans who still love him.

“I don’t expect to be celebrated by everybody. I’m still aware that a lot of people want to see me fail but again I think I’ll pay attention more to the way that I’m celebrated by the people who love me unconditionally. Thinking about my time in Boston I can sit here and list myriads of things that none of you in here know that I was dealing with.”

“The blow-up dolls, all the remarks that are getting said, that’s basketball. When I leave out of here and I walk around Boston I don’t hear a lot of the things I hear when I’m playing on the court. There are a lot of Celtics fans that still love me too, surprising to everybody.”

Irving will be hoping to overturn a rough stretch of luck he has had in recent years, as he is 1-11 against the Celtics since stomping on their logo in 2021. Irving is going to have to overcome this curse if he and the Mavericks want to win the NBA championship this year.

Kyrie is crucial to the Mavericks’ NBA championship chances. So far, in Game 2, Irving has done a good job. But he needs to step it up a notch to help the Mavericks steal a game on the road.
