After a slew of trades at the deadline, the Los Angeles Lakers become a completely different team. Finally, with players who fit well together, LeBron James and Anthony Davis thrived and were able to lead the Lakers all the way to the Western Conference Finals. Sadly for the Lakeshow, they couldn’t manage to win a single game against the Nuggets, but they’ve been hard at work trying to fix that problem this summer.

With some new additions, particularly the signing of Cam Reddish, the Lakers were able to add depth and size to the frontcourt, which should give them an edge if they face off against the Nuggets next year.

“You always have to go through the defending champs to get to where we want to go to win another championship. And we got beat by a Denver team that was bigger and longer, and so I think to go out into the free agent market and find a guy like Cam Reddish who is 6’8″, 6’9″, and can play that three-and-D role; Taurean Prince was another three-and-D wing, we just really wanted to upgrade our size, length, defense and shooting,” said Pelinka. “Cam’s journey has been up and down, (but) we have an assistant coach in Chris Jent. He was really with Cam early in his career in Atlanta, and he clicked with him. So he was a big part of Darvin and I wanting to bring him back… We think Cam is going to have a really big season for us.”

Cam has shown flashes of being a quality 3-and-D wing player, but he has yet to find a long-term NBA home. After stops in Atlanta, New York, and Portland, this could be Reddish’s last chance to make a name for himself.

The Nuggets Are The Team To Beat In The West

Despite other teams like the Suns and Warriors making some notable changes this offseason, the Nuggets are still the reigning NBA champions, and the West goes through them until someone takes them out.

For the Lakers specifically, they couldn’t just run it back and hope for the best. But now that they’ve got some options, and the Nuggets lost a piece of their own, the playing field might be more even than it was this May.
