The Los Angeles Lakers couldn’t pull off what would have been a statement win this season after losing to the Los Angeles Clippers in a highly anticipated matchup.
The Lakers fell 108-115 to their cross-town rivals in an 11th consecutive loss, but LeBron James has attributed it to the Lakers playing a back-to-back on the road after an OT win over the Utah Jazz:
“It was tough… comin’ off the road trip and gettin’ back late night after our overtime game. It was a tough game for us. It was one of those ‘scheduling conflicts.”
The Lakers knew what would happen when they played their stars in both games. The schedule was extremely unkind to the Lakers, as the Clippers were coming off over half a week of rest before this game. At least the Lakers finish their season off at home and face the Phoenix Suns next, who will be on the second half of a road back-to-back as well.
The Lakers May Have Lost Their Chance At The 6th Seed
The Los Angeles Lakers have looked like one of the most competitive teams in the league over the last 2 months, having one of the best records in the Western Conference since the trade deadline. But the hole the team had dug itself into was quite large and is taking longer for them to get out of. Every loss is costly when the margins are so thin.
The Lakers cannot lose either of their remaining 2 games and need to pray that either the Clippers lose both their remaining games or the Warriors lose at least 1. The Lakers have the season tiebreaker over Golden State, so finishing with the same record as them will give them the higher seed.
These last few days of the season are going to be an incredible sprint to lock up playoff seeds and is going to be phenomenal to watch.
