• Both LeBron James and Dwyane Wade have admitted that the Heat ‘Big 3’ was formed to beat the Celtics

• Wade recently claimed that he and James decided to team up after watching Kobe Bryant win his fifth title

• The Heat didn’t lose to the Celtics in a playoff series after James and Chris Bosh joined Dwyane Wade

The Miami Heat became the destination of LeBron James and Chris Bosh in 2010 after both players hadn’t been able to achieve title success in the East with the Boston Celtics superteam that formed in 2007. Naturally, it led to them teaming up with Dwyane Wade to finally start beating the Celtics.

James and Wade had publicly admitted that they only teamed up so that they could get through the Celtics, with LeBron saying it after a game.

“Great team. I have the utmost respect for that team. They’re the reason all three of us came together, what they did, that blueprint that they had.”

Wade admitted the same while talking to Kevin Garnett years after their retirement.

“We can’t do it alone, who else can do it with us? Bosh. Chris was 100% in, he was shocked. Y’all were the sole reason we got together. We can’t compete with Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Rondo.”

Teams in the NBA aren’t built with just one team in mind, so of course the Heat had plans on dominating the NBA by beating others such as Kobe Bryant‘s Los Angeles Lakers. But the Celtics were a threat in their own conference that the three stars couldn’t overcome individually on their own teams.

The Celtics never beat the Heat in a playoff series after LeBron, Wade, and Bosh teamed up.

Dwyane Wade Recently Claimed The Heat Got Together To Beat Kobe Bryant

The reason users on social media are sharing these old quotes is because of comments Wade made on Tony Parker’s podcast recently. Wade claimed that he called LeBron after Kobe Bryant won his fifth title in 2010

“As soon as Kobe ran and grabbed that ball I was like, “LeBron, so what you gonna do”. That was our summer free agency. They were dominating. Kobe was winning all these rings. I was like, “Hold on, now he got five and we got 1? Like no”. That changed the league.”

While this story could be true, it does ignore the fact that the Celtics had been the primary motivation behind the Heat making the superteam that they did.

The Lakers never made the Finals again in the Kobe era after 2010, so worrying about the Lakers over a conference rival like the Celtics would have been foolhardy at the moment anyway.

Dwyane Wade Was Angry When LeBron James Left The Franchise

After the Heat had got together and won two titles in four seasons, they saw their run abruptly end when LeBron decided to leave the franchise in 2014 to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Wade was furious with LeBron for making that decision and ending the Heat’s competitive future, but understood why James made that decision.

“Was there a part of me that’s a little pissed? Yes. I’m human. I don’t wanna lose the best player in the game. Why did we lose him? Now, I gotta figure out my future. I had given up my stardom and my place for you to step in and help lead us. Bron and I had a conversation about that moment before I went to Cleveland later about how I felt and how he felt. We talked about the moment and moved on from it.”

Given Wade’s regression due to injury and the unexpected health problems that eventually sidelined Bosh and made him retire, James made the right decision to leave and team up with 22-year-old Kyrie Irving

He has one of the most famous title wins in NBA history because of that decision, solidifying his legacy as either the greatest or second-greatest player in NBA history.
