LeBron James is undoubtedly one of the world’s biggest sports stars. As a 19x All-Star, 4x MVP, 4x champion, and the self-proclaimed GOAT of basketball, “King” James is on par with other legends like Lionel Messi, Michael Jordan, and Tom Brady, as one of the greatest athletes of all time.

So when LeBron hinted at potentially being mic’d up for a Lakers game this year, it drew excitement from his fans across the world. The post came on Instagram when LeBron reacted to a Los Angeles Dodgers player being mic’d up during one of their games. “This is SUPER lit,” wrote James on his story. “May have to add that to one of my games this year for like a quarter.”

LeBron wants to wear a mic for a quarter.

Of course, NBA players have been mic’d up in the past but it’s usually just for a few plays and it’s almost always edited in some way to exclude private conversations or regular player chatter. In the case of LeBron, it’s unlikely that any in-game audio from him would be truly authentic but the experience would certainly light the internet on fire with reactions.

Should The NBA Add A ‘Hard Knocks’ Style Documentary?

In the NFL, fans are given a special inside look at a specific team every season and it adds a lot of interesting and entertaining narratives to the online discourse. In 2023, the team chosen was the Jets and fans are eager to see how the team is managing the opening night injury to Aaron Rodgers.

In the NBA, no such program currently exists but it’s not too late to add one. For a team like the Lakers, which thrives in the spotlight, they would be an ideal team for a Hard Knocks-style NBA docuseries. For LeBron especially, he could get mic’d up for a game every week and he would surely go viral for some of the things he’d say to his teammates. Of course, making a whole show out of it would be taking things to the extreme but James has avoided trouble so far and there’s no reason to think he couldn’t handle wearing a mic on the sidelines for random games or quarters throughout the season.

Is This The Last Dance For LeBron James?

The biggest case for LeBron being recorded this season might be little amount of time he has left. At 38 years old, LeBron is nearing the end of his long and storied career. Just like Michael Jordan had cameras for ‘The Last Dance,’ LeBron could choose to do something similar for the 2023-34 campaign.

After 20 years in the NBA, James nearly called it a career this summer after making some highly questionable statements about his future. Fortunately, he agreed to return for his 21st season but this could very well be his last and he’ll be looking to get the absolute most out of it.

Wearing a mic for even a single quarter would be a great treat for the fans and a great way to remember his last seasons in the NBA but make no mistake about it: LeBron is all business in 2023, and his goal of winning a title with the Lakers has not changed in the slightest. The only difference now is whether or not he’ll be able to do it again before his career is all said and done.
