LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have failed to recreate the magic of their 2019-20 NBA season. In his second season with the Lakers, LeBron helped lead the franchise to the NBA Finals and win the NBA championship. Many fans expected LeBron and the Lakers to start a dynasty, one that would be decorated with many championship banners. But that hasn’t been the case.

LeBron James spoke in his exit interview about his future with the Los Angeles Lakers and his ambitions for the remainder of his stint with the team. He noted that his goal when he first came to LA was to win a championship, something that he did a few years ago. But that doesn’t mean he is content, as James mentioned that he wants to win another NBA championship with the Los Angeles Lakers before he retires.

LeBron said he came to the Lakers to win a championship, and did so in 2020, but that remains the goal:

“I want to do it again.”

LeBron James will have to wait and see what kind of team he has next season. Lakers GM Rob Pelinka also spoke in his exit interview, noting that while he will take input from people like Kurt Rambis, the Buss family, Anthony Davis, and even LeBron James, he will now be taking the final decision when it comes to the roster and coaching changes that will be made to the roster.

LeBron and the Lakers will be watching the playoffs from home, as they got knocked out of playoff contention last week. For players like LeBron James and Anthony Davis, it will be very difficult to watch their rivals like Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving compete for an NBA championship while they have to plan for the next season.
