• LeBron James is one of the smartest basketball players in NBA history

• A lot of his IQ is built up by his incredible memory

• James easily ran through the list of NBA players who have played 21 seasons in a recent viral video

LeBron James has proven time and again that he is incredibly intelligent. He has found a way to be a 25+-point scorer for 20 years in the NBA and will look to continue that in Year 21. During Lakers media day, LeBron was asked to name every player who played 21 seasons, something The King did with ease.

“Five? Dirk, Kevin Garnett, Kevin Willis, Robert Parish, and… I know this? Vince Carter.”

LeBron remembering Kevin Willis before Vince Carter is hilarious, as most people would have defaulted to Carter as the first answer due to his 22-year stint in the NBA. James is in a position to not only equal Carter’s record but surpass it while still being one of the best players in the league.

We’ve never seen a player who has endured physicality like LeBron before, but we have seen very few players who share his level of intelligence as well.

LeBron James Remembered Every Missed Shot By The Lakers In A 14-0 Run In The 2023 Playoffs

During the 2023 Playoffs, the Lakers met up with Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors in the second round. During Game 1, a matchup the Lakers won away from home, James remembered every single missed basket from the Lakers during a 14-0 run by the Warriors.

“We just missed some shots. I can think about four or five shots. AR had a shot from the left wing. Missed it. I had a fadeaway jumper in the paint. Missed it. I was able to hit AD on a cut, one of his patent jump hooks. He missed it. Got the offensive rebound. Missed it again. They lost it around their sideline and gave us another extra possession. D’Lo had a wide-open three opposite of their bench. Sometimes you just miss shots. We executed to perfection, we just didn’t make shots.”

This was a very personal matchup for James, who had a 3-1 record against the Warriors before the 2023 Playoffs. He led the Lakers to win the series in six games, and his attention to detail that made the Warriors’ offense crumble in front of the Lakers’ defense was a huge part of that.

LeBron James’ Basketball IQ Is Extremely High

It isn’t just LeBron’s memory, but it’s also his intelligence. Rajon Rondo recently revealed that he and LeBron would take on the responsibility of breaking down the strategies of opposing head coaches in the 2020 Playoffs, with James finding ways to counter what his former coach Erik Spoelstra would do in the Finals.

“Bron’s like, ‘If we get Miami, I got Spo, and if we get Boston, you got Brad [Stevens]. So that was kind of our mindset. It wasn’t like, ‘Oh, we’re gonna beat the Heat, or we’re gonna beat the [Boston] Celtics.’ It was more so if we can outcoach or outplay the coaches on that staff in particular, which two guys we felt that we knew pretty good, we were gonna win.”

James is incredibly adept at breaking down the game, as many of his former teammates and opponents have illustrated. With that understanding of the game, James can extend his career way beyond Year 21.
