LeBron James Says His Goal For Next Season Is To Trick The Referees And Get More Free Throws

3 Min Read

LeBron James has enjoyed one of his best seasons in terms of statistical output during the 2021-22 campaign. LeBron averaged over 30 points a game and narrowly missed out on the scoring title, there’s not much more the King could have done individually. Of course, the Lakers have struggled and he has received his share of the blame for the way the roster was built, but his play on the court was peerless.

If he is to keep strengthening his case for the title of GOAT though, LeBron needs to win more championships, and the Lakers currently look very far away from that. So there is always room for improvement for LBJ individually. And he has one slightly odd goal for next season, apart from obviously leading his team towards the top of the Western Conference standings once more.

““I want to get to the free-throw line. I want to learn how to trick the refs.”

Winning fouls and getting calls when attacking the basket is something of an art, as Joel Embiid explained this season, it means that the player is simply smarter than his opponents. It might not make for the best viewing but getting to the free-throw line consistently is a recipe for success for any player.

James attempted 6 free throws a game this season, which would rank him just outside the top 10 in the league in terms of winning free throws. Considering how much of his game is about driving to the basket, the number seems comparatively low and it’s understandable why LeBron would want it to be higher.

He only shot 75% from the line this season though, and his career average is even lower at 73%, so that might be something he wants to improve on in what will be his 20th season in the league if he’s aiming to earn more free throws. If he can somehow score even more next season while helping his team win though, that will only help James grow his legacy further.
