LeBron James has been in the news cycle recently for his affinity towards saving money. While some have tried to troll him for it, it is impressive and inspirational how carefully James treats money despite being a billionaire. And a few years back, he had told Maverick Carter on a podcast about how he developed his attitude toward wealth.

“My uncles always taught me — they taught me how to have a savings account,” James said on the digital platform that he and Carter launched in 2014, as per CNBC. “They’d give me a dollar and they’d be like, ‘Listen, nephew, go spend 35 cents of it and keep the other 65.’ Or, if they gave me two dollars, they’d be like, ‘Go ahead and spend a dollar of it, but stash the other dollar.’”

It’s not that James is a miser, he does spend on the things he likes. LeBron has a car collection that is quite significant, and many of the ones he owns cost a pretty penny. But this advice of always keeping aside part of the money you earn can go a long way in ensuring a good life for everyone. That James internalized it at a young age and kept that mentality with him explains why he has succeeded in building an empire.

LeBron James Is The Highest Earner In The NBA By A Long Shot

While LeBron James may not have the biggest contract in the NBA, he earns a lot of money outside his salary every year. In 2022, James was top of the list of the league’s highest earners, with a whopping $119.5 million coming in. This put him nearly $30 million clear of Stephen Curry, and it’s more than twice what 7th placed Damian Lillard made.

With money like this, the proverbial 35 cents James spends of the dollar he earns would still buy luxuries that most people can only dream of. The goal for the King has been to purchase his own NBA team, and the way he has grown his money has led to that becoming a very real possibility. LeBron James is a unique superstar in every way, and it is great to see that he has taken every piece of advice he has ever received to heart.
