The Dallas Mavericks are still fighting for a playoff spot ahead of the final two games of the NBA regular season. Even if they make it to the big party, several people around the league believe they must make some changes for next season.

For instance, analyst Chris Broussard has urged the organization to find a new partner for Luka Doncic, who has struggled to be successful with Kyrie Irving.

“What they need to do is figure out a way for Luka to play with superstars,” he said. “Right now, it’s my turn, your turn. That’s what it is between him and Kyrie.”

“They got to figure out how to incorporate Luka into offense that is not just based around him,” the analyst added. “Because LeBron, Harden, Jordan, Westbrook, Oscar, none of them could win championships just as a one-man show.”

After many years of waiting to get an All-Star caliber teammate (outside of Jalen Brunson), Luka was joined by Kyrie ahead of the 2023 trade deadline. One would think that this duo would dominate the West, but the Mavericks are fighting to get into the play-in tournament.

This partnership hasn’t worked as expected, yet Kyrie has claimed that this will take time to be completed. Mark Cuban has shown his desire to keep Kyrie past this season, but the player is also expected to test the waters of free agency this summer.

Luka Doncic Is Content After Kyrie Irving’s Big Game Against Sacramento Kings

Meanwhile, Luka has nothing but good things to say about Kyrie, even showering him with praise after Irving took over against the Sacramento Kings. The Slovenian player was in awe of Kyrie’s performance and the things he’s capable of doing for the Mavs.

Right now, this looks like an unlikely possibility, but if Luka and Kyrie get hot for the postseason, the Mavericks will be a huge threat to a lot of people. The Mavs are currently tied with the Oklahoma City Thunder at 10th in the West, and their next two games will be crucial if they want to at least make it to the play-in.
