On Thursday night, LeBron James shared that he will miss a Lakers game for Bronny James’ USC debut, as his family remains his top priority over anything else. James received some pushback over it, and he has now sent a clear message to his haters on the subject.

It is fair for James to prioritize his family in this situation. There were serious concerns at one point about whether Bronny would ever be able to play competitive basketball again following his cardiac arrest earlier this year.

The 19-year-old’s USC debut after everything he has been through will be a momentous occasion and it is perfectly fine for his father to want to be present for it. Missing a day of work for it isn’t something he should be getting criticized for.

Bronny Has Been Cleared To Return To The Court

It was on July 24 that Bronny suffered the cardiac arrest and just over a month later, came the good news that his basketball career wasn’t over. NBA insider Shams Charania reported that Bronny was expected to make a full recovery after he was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect.

Since that moment, fans have been waiting eagerly to see the teenager in action. We then finally got a big update on his status on Thursday, with Bronny being cleared for a return to basketball.

“Bronny James is now cleared by his doctors for a full return to basketball. Bronny will have a final evaluation with USC staff this week, resume practice next week, and return to games soon after,”

It was wonderful news and it now remains to be seen when that debut might be. The earliest based on this update could be on December 17 against Auburn but we if go a bit conservative here, he could make his debut later in the month against Oregon on December 28.

If it is against Oregon or even Oregon State after that on December 30, it would clash with games for the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers play the Charlotte Hornets on December 28 and the Minnesota Timberwolves on December 30.

So, if it is one of those days, then James will end up missing a game. It would certainly be a blow to the 11-9 Lakers, as they have been quite reliant on LeBron. The 38-year-old is averaging 24.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game in this 2023-24 season.

LeBron James Shared How Excited He Gets When Bronny Returns Home From College

Bronny hasn’t been able to get on the court yet, but he has been attending college, of course. It is a new experience not just for him but for his father LeBron as well and James shared how excited he gets when Bronny returns home from college.

“It’s just great to have him here,” LeBron said. “I mean obviously we know what happened in the summer. So, I see my man with a smile… He’s a big-time college kid, so if anybody got college kids you know they leave and you might not see them for a week or two and then they show up at your house, it’s time to get their clothes clean and they want a fresh meal. It makes me super super duper happy.”

It may seem like just a little thing, but any parent of a college goer can relate well with James. If he gets excited just to see his son at home for such matters, one can only imagine the emotions that LeBron might go through when he sees him in action on the court for USC, after everything that has happened.
