LeBron James’ Teams Have Traded First-Round Picks 13 Times And Only One Of Them Has Turned Into An All-Star

The history of LeBron James' teams proves that the Los Angeles Lakers using their future draft picks in a trade wouldn't hurt them.

LeBron James may have turned 38 years old recently, there is no NBA team in the league that wouldn’t want to have the King on their roster. James has the ability to impact the game with his deep bag of skills. Be it his scoring ability, dishing out assists to his teammates, or simply being a great leader, James is certainly one of the most valuable assets for any team.

But having LeBron James comes at its own cost. Whenever LeBron joins a team, the franchise has to mold the entire roster around him to get the most out of his talents. Although it helps them in winning the NBA title, it also puts them in a win-now situation. As a result, giving up future draft picks to improve the roster is the norm for any James team.

However, is it really that bad? An NBA fan on Twitter recently pointed out the fact that over the course of his career, any team that has had LeBron James on the roster had to give up a total of 13 first-round picks.

LeBron James' Teams Have Traded 13 Times Their First-Round Picks

As mentioned in the tweet, only one of these valuable first-round picks have turned into an NBA All-Star. It was Andrew Wiggins who became an All-Star for the first time in his career last season.

Should The Los Angeles Lakers Trade Their Future Draft Picks?

This season, LeBron James is playing at an elite level as usual. Despite that, after 41 games, the Los Angeles Lakers still have a record of 19-22. Evidently, this has frustrated James, and he understandably wants the organization to take some action.

Unfortunately, the Lakers are hellbent on saving their future first-round draft picks. Keeping that in mind, many rumors about James potentially leaving the team this summer have emerged.

At the end of the day, if the Lakers want to win another NBA title with James as the star of the team, they certainly need to let go of those future picks and use them to improve the roster.
