LeBron James and Stephen Curry are two of the best players of this generation. The two superstars are currently locking horns with each other in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals.
The Lakers have done a great job of guarding Curry as they hold a 3-1 lead over the Warriors. Speaking of guarding Curry, in an episode of ‘The Shop’ in 2022, James talked about guarding the two-time NBA MVP.
“I love everything about that guy. Lethal. When he get out of his car, you better guard him right from the moment he pulls up to the arena. Right as soon as he get out of his car, you better [guard him]. … You might want to guard him when he get out of the bed.”

LeBron James wasn’t lying when he talked about playing good defense on Stephen Curry, and you can check in Game 1 when he follows Stephen Curry until he comes to the bench.

In the postgame conference, Curry put fans’ minds at ease by revealing the conversation with James and confirming what the King said.
“He was just joking around about having to guard me all the way till I got to the bench.”
This is more than enough evidence to prove that LeBron James always takes guarding Stephen Curry seriously. After all, even a second of lapsed concentration against the greatest shooter of all time can prove lethal.
LeBron James And The Lakers Have Done A Great Job Of Guarding Stephen Curry
Stephen Curry has the ability to turn the outcome of the game, all by himself, if left unattended. LeBron James has seen that over the course of his career.
James has made his current teammates aware of Steph’s greatness, and as a result, they have done a great job of handling the Dubs superstar. Evidently, it’s no surprise that the Lakers are up 3-1 in the series and advance to the Western Conference Finals in the next game.
Considering James is extremely cautious about making sure that Curry is guarded well, he was certainly not joking around.
Curry has been kept quiet this series as he has averaged 25.3 PPG 6.0 RPG, and 8.0 APG while shooting 43.7% from the field and 38.1% from downtown. Now, these are not bad numbers, but certainly not what fans are used to seeing from Stephen Curry.
In four games, Curry’s highest-scoring night was during the Game 4 defeat, where he recorded 31 points. But even in that game Curry shot 12-30 from the field, including an abysmal 3-14 from the three-point line.
Speaking of Game 4, Curry was closely defended by Anthony Davis on two clutch possessions. That resulted in Curry bricking those shots and ultimately being unable to help the Warriors win the game.
The bigger question is whether Steph can lead the Warriors to a huge comeback in the series, despite going down 3-1. It would be exciting to see Curry attempt that.
