Angel Reese’s teammate Flau’jae Johson’s mother’s comments have led to speculation that the college basketball star has been suspended by LSU because of her low GPA. Johnson and Reese’s mothers exchanged words on Instagram recently, with the former claiming Angel has a GPA below 2.0.

“You definitely know about grammar errors when your daughter has a 2.0 or less GPA”

The comment was in response to Angel Reese Webb, Reese’s mother, putting out a story that read, “Folks pls do not send me long text msgs with a bunch of grammatical errors it gives me a headache. How do I know you said what you said if I can’t understand what you’re saying?”

There’s no way to know for sure, of course, if there is any truth to her GPA being that low, or that she has been suspended for that reason. LSU never released any statement on Reese being suspended, but she was not part of the team for their game against Southeastern Louisiana on Friday.

That was on the back of Reese being benched for the entire second half of their win over Kent State, in what head coach Kim Mulkey called a “coach’s decision.” Mulkey was then asked about Reese’s absence for the game against SLU and her response only ramped up the speculation even further.

“You want me to explain why? It was very obvious Angel was not in uniform. Angel is a part of this basketball team & we hope to see her sooner than later. I’m not going to answer anymore. That’s it. That’s all y’all need to know.”

It is certainly possible that relations between Mulkey and Reese have soured and the head coach is keeping her stay player out in order to get her back in line.

Things sure have changed so much in the span of a few months. Just last season, Reese averaged 23.0 points, 15.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game and led LSU to their first-ever national championship. She won Most Outstanding Player and was at the top of the world.

This season got off to a rocky start with defeat with a defeat to Colorado, but they have cruised to victory in every game since then. Reese was averaging 17.0 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game, but her performances on the court are now the last thing anyone is talking about.

The 21-year-old, meanwhile, took to X to address some of the rumors flying around with a rather simple message.

“Please don’t believe everything you read.”

There sure does seem to be turmoil behind the scenes at LSU and we can only hope that this situation gets resolved at the earliest. Reese’s former teammate Jasmine Carson knows what’s going on and it seems the issue is big enough to the point where it can’t get out.

“Y’all better hope I don’t say nothing.”

Safe to say this is far from an ideal start to their title defense for LSU. They’ll be taking on Texas Southern Tigers on Monday night and it’ll be interesting to see whether their biggest star will make her return there.
