Luka Doncic Reveals Which Player Is The Best Guard Defender In The NBA

Luka Doncic thinks this player is a tough defensive matchup for him.

Luka Doncic is one of the best offensive players in the NBA, capable of scoring on all three levels while also being a transcendent playmaker. He managed to lead the Dallas Mavericks to the Western Conference Finals in 2022, and he is currently averaging 32.9 PPG, 8.5 RPG, and 8.8 APG.

Despite his offensive talent, it seems as though Luka Doncic still has defensive players that he struggles with. Recently, Luka Doncic claimed that Jrue Holiday is the best guard defender in the league, noting that “it’s very tough” to go against him.

Jrue is one of the best if not the best guard defender for me. He don’t get a lot of praise for how he can guard. So for me, it’s very tough to go against him. I’m surprised he was never DPOY or something. They have a great team overall, obviously Giannis MVP.

It is clear that Luka Doncic respects Jrue Holiday’s abilities on the defensive end. Holiday was a key part of the 2021 Milwaukee Bucks championship, and we’ll see if he can help them win another ring this year.

Other Players Know How Good Jrue Holiday Is

There is no doubt that Jrue Holiday is an elite guard defender, and he has frequently gotten praise from other players in the league as well. Andre Iguodala once claimed that Jrue Holiday should have 3 DPOY awards.

You can write this down. Jrue Holiday should have three Defensive Player of the Year (awards), and he should be first-team All-Defensive for the last nine years.

I don’t care. You can ask — who’s the best scorer in the league? Who’s the most gifted scorer in basketball history?

Enter the Kevin Durant part of the discussion. As Iguodala shares, his former Warriors teammate and current Nets star has an extremely high opinion of the Bucks point guard who spent plenty of time trying to slow Durant during the East semifinals in June.

Ask (Durant) who’s the hardest guard — who’s the guy who gives him the toughest time?

Jrue Holiday is 6-foot-3 and Kevin Durant is 6-10. He’s not 6-10 — he’s a 7-footer. And Kevin Durant is like, ‘Yo, Jrue Holiday is different.’ You see what happened (with Team USA) in the Olympics when Jrue Holiday got there? But I’m crazy, right?

There is no questioning Jrue Holiday’s perimeter defense. He often makes ballhandlers uncomfortable with his relentless activity, and there’s a reason he’s made four All-Defensive teams.

Hopefully, we will see Jrue Holiday help the Milwaukee Bucks make a deep run in the Eastern Conference this year. There’s no doubt that he’s a fantastic player, and the Bucks need him to be relentless on both ends to get far.
