Damian Lillard has explained for how long he will play for the Portland Trail Blazers and what needs to happen for him to extend his stay in Portland. The player is now ready to finally compete in the Western Conference, although things haven’t gone as well as expected for them.
A terrific start to the season turned out to be a complex situation for Chauncey Billups and his team, but Dame remains confident they can get the job done. Lillard remains one of the most loyal players in the league alongside Stephen Curry and Giannis Antetokounmpo, but the difference between Dame and the other two is that they already won championships.
Lillard is still trying to win something with the Blazers, which hasn’t been easy at all. They appear to have a better chance with Jerami Grant and Anfernee Simmons on the court, but nobody expects them to compete for the title this campaign.
Damian Lillard Says He Wants To Stay With Portland Trail Blazers As Long As Possible
A lot has been said about Dame and his future on the team, but he has stated his desire to win a championship in Portland and not skip the grind. This has been a huge thing for him, but many people don’t rule out a move away for him in the future.
During a recent Q&A session with GQ Sports, where he talked about the player he’d pick to help him win a championship, Dame also talked about his future with the Blazers, revealing for how long he thinks he’ll keep playing with the franchise (3:19 mark).
“I hope so, but we will see,” Dame replied to somebody asking if he’ll play his entire career with the Blazers. “We will see.”
It’s good that Dame didn’t make any promises to fans or anything, as things can change really quickly in the NBA. Kevin Durant requesting a trade from the Brooklyn Nets last season is the biggest proof of that, but right now, it doesn’t seem like Lillard will try to force his way out of Moda Center.
The Blazers aren’t looking as dangerous as they did at the beginning of the season, and perhaps another disappointing season would push Dame to request a trade or demand much more from the front office.
