Damian Lillard has been trying to make the Portland Trail Blazers a championship team, but so far, things haven’t clicked for him. The closest he was to the Larry O’Brien trophy was in 2019 when the Golden State Warriors swept them in the Western Conference Finals.

It’s been three years since that moment, and the Blazers have been criticized for not assembling a good team around Dame. Despite being linked to many rumors, Dame has stated his desire to stay with the team for the rest of his career and now is more focused on bringing players instead of joining them.

Dame recruited Jerami Grant to the Blazers in the summer, and he tried to pair up with another superstar before that, trying to link up with Kevin Durant when the Brooklyn Nets superstar requested a trade.

Damian Lillard Names The Player He Thinks Can Help Him Win A Championship

Dame isn’t done mentioning players that can help him reach the next level and compete for a championship. During a recent Q&A session with GQ Sports, the former Rookie of the Year replied to a series of questions, including the player who can help him win that elusive ring (4:10 mark).

“‘If you were to pick a player that would help you win a championship, who would you pick?’ I would pick Giannis,” Lillard said.

Truth be told, a duo of Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo would be incredibly great to watch. Dame is one of the most exciting players in the league and can make clutch shots whenever his team needs them. He has shown time and time again that he’s not afraid of the big moments.

Giannis is the same, but he has a different style of play from Dame. Something that they both have and that makes this scenario impossible is that they are very loyal to their teams, meaning that one of them will have to leave their squad to team up.

Still, this would be a great option for Dame and the Blazers, but right now, it looks really hard to see Giannis and Dame linking up soon.
