Inside The NBA is arguably the most entertaining basketball show around. Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Ernie Johnson, and Kenny Smith are regularly indulging in some shenanigans and making those watching laugh after giving them some great basketball analysis. But their fame also makes them prime targets for being trolled by fans online, and this recently happened after a clip from the show went viral.

Kenny Smith has a running gag with other crew members that involves him racing them to the video board when he is doing his analysis. In a recent episode, it was Shaquille O’Neal got involved in the race trying to beat the Jet to the board. However, the big man underestimated how competitive the situation would be and ended up getting pushed into a Christmas tree.

The video went viral all over the internet, with many laughing along to what has become expected quality entertainment. However, some suggested that the video had been faked for virality, and Charles Barkley had a crisp response for all those that didn’t believe it didn’t happen organically.

Charles Barkley Explained What Caused Shaquille O’Neal’s Fall And Said It Wasn’t A Rehearsed Move

Charles Barkley is known for being as real as they come. His value to the show cannot be measured except for in the vast amount of dollars he recently received to continue doing it. And he is also known to be a spokesperson for the entire crew, defending them and their takes on other shows. He did so again on the Dan Patrick Show while addressing the viral clip.

“I’ve heard people saying it was fake,” Barkley said. “First of all, if you know Kenny and Shaq, they’re not gonna be at work early to rehearse nothing. If we go on at six or seven, Kenneth’s gonna show at 6:52. He’s not gonna be there early.

“I think what just really happened, I think Shaq just got off balance. I don’t think Kenny really meant to knock him hard into the tree. It’s kinda like you’re last couple of years when you’re an NBA player when you can run, but can’t stop. I think he hit him, he just caught him off guard and Shaq couldn’t just stop.”

Chuck is right about one thing, the Inside the NBA crew has never seemed like the type to sit and rehearse bits in this manner. Their charm comes from the off-the-cuff moments, so it’s easy to believe Barkley here. Scripted or not, as long as the 4 continue to make watching basketball analysis fun, the show will remain one of the best on television.
