Luka Doncic has earned a bad reputation around the NBA thanks to his constant complaining to referees. The Dallas Mavericks young star is great on the court, but there is something about his personality when playing that makes a lot of people roll their eyes.
Luka is constantly complaining with officials, no matter how clean plays are, he will always have something to say to the crew. Well, that is changing now as the Slovenian point guard pleaded that he will stop yelling at refs and try to have better communication with them.
A couple of days ago, New York Knicks legend Walt Frazier criticized the young star, saying he’s always crying no matter what happens on the court. Luka recently sat down with JJ Redick to discuss a variety of topics, including his communication with referees. The player stated that he won’t yell more at referees as he had a serious conversation with himself (3:08).
“If you saw the last two games, I was really good,” Doncic said. “I had a little talk with myself. It was unacceptable the way I was acting. Maybe it was some of my personal issues but I had a talk with myself and I just said this can’t keep going. It’s a really bad look, I knew I was doing it but I kept doing it. It’s over now, I just had a talk with myself. No more, man.”
This is a good thing to know. Luka has been heavily criticized for his antics while talking with referees. If he can control himself, that would be incredible news for the player and the refs. Doncic is still trying to have a deep playoff run with the Dallas Mavericks and him having a good relationship with the referees could help him in the long run.
In the last two games, he behaved. It remains to be seen if he can keep that attitude throughout the rest of the games.
