Luka Doncic Was Tweeting During The 2024 All-Star Game To Justify His Shot Selection

Luka Doncic hopped onto social media at halftime of the All-Star Game to justify an absurd half-court shot with time on the clock.

The 2024 All-Star Game has further added to Luka Doncic‘s legacy as a player who couldn’t be bothered about the All-Star game. While Luka is known to be a freak competitor in the regular season and the playoffs, he is yet to score over 10 points in an All-Star game after his fifth appearance tonight.

During the game, Doncic launched a shot from beyond half-court with 40 seconds left in the first half. He missed the shot terribly and everyone was wondering why Luka took that shot. He came on social media himself to explain the reason at halftime.

This was bizarre but hilarious because Doncic is not a very frequent user of social media, especially X.

Nonetheless, it’s clear Doncic is focusing on having fun over competing in an exhibition game. The NBA needs to find a way to get players like him and Nikola Jokic to show they care about being selected for the game, as both play with low effort and energy during the weekend.

Doncic, who wears No. 77, put up seven points, seven rebounds, and seven assists tonight.

Luka Doncic Reacts To Another All-Star Game Appearance

In six seasons in the NBA, Doncic has been named to five All-Star teams. since his sophomore season, he has been a staple in the All-Star game but never tries to make headlines on the court.

Despite the low effort on the court, Doncic spoke to the media and revealed how the experience of being in the game is always a positive one for him.

“Oh, it was fun. It’s always fun for me, just being here — fifth time being All-Star,” Doncic said. “It’s unbelievable. So, just having fun out here… Every time I’m really excited to be here, all of the people you see, the players you share a locker room with, LeBron, Steph, KD, they’ve been doing this for a long time. So it’s an unbelievable feeling,” Doncic said.

He was seen chatting with many top stars around the NBA, with LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Bam Adebayo being among the names. But everyone knows Doncic spent most of the weekend with one of his best friends, Nikola Jokic.

Luka is averaging 34.2 points, 9.5 assists, and 8.8 rebounds for the Mavericks this season. His low-effort play in the All-Star Game is likely because he is trying to keep his body safe from further injury. He left the Mavericks last game in the fourth quarter due to injuries and played through most of February with a broken nose.

While we will rarely see him tweet in the middle of a regular season or playoff game, we rarely get to see this jovial side of Luka on the court. He is mostly a very quiet player who brings unmatched competitive energy to the court when the games have consequences. He’s shown that in the playoffs time and again.

If Doncic wants to be regarded as a true superstar in the NBA, he has to realize that the greats always show out in the All-Star game. His idols like LeBron James and Michael Jordan have multiple All-Star Game MVPs to their name, as well as his teammate Kyrie Irving. Hopefully, he can elevate his All-Star play to a high level but it seems unlikely he’ll do that anytime soon.
