Magic Johnson is one of the biggest superstars to ever play in the NBA. He was the heart and soul of the Showtime Los Angeles Lakers and helped them win five NBA Championships during his career.

Following his career in the NBA, like most NBA players, Magic Johnson decided to shift his focus toward his family. Speaking of his family, Magic recently revealed to ‘PEOPLE’ how he is extremely proud of his son EJ.

“I love EJ’s career,” Magic revealed. “I think that EJ is really taking charge of his career and making his own decisions, and he knows how and what he wants to get into.”

Magic’s son, Earvin Johnson III, or EJ, came out as gay in 2013 and since then has become a constant support for other people trying to come out. Johnson revealed how proud he is of his son for doing so. On top of that, how EJ has helped in saving the lives of many.

“I’m really proud of him because he’s getting so involved and letting his voice help other people, too,” Magic added. “He’s saving a lot of people’s lives, and people don’t even know, and I’m so proud of him.”

Magic pointed out several times how proud he is of his son. Coming out as gay is never an easy thing for anyone, and EJ must feel extremely happy that his father is extremely proud of him and has not stopped showing his love for him.

How Did Magic Johnson React To EJ Coming Out As Gay?

Magic Johnson is certainly proud of his son regardless of his sexuality. But when he initially learned about this, it was huge news for the Los Angeles Lakers legend. Johnson revealed emotionally revealed that he was like any other dad in the beginning, but with time, realized that EJ was still his son regardless of his sexuality.

“In the beginning, I was like any other dad,” Magic said, “‘Oh, I’m gonna get him in sports,’ right? And so when we start, first soccer, and then football, he like [disagrees with the head], and then you know, I saw early on, he’s playing with dolls, he likes to play dress-up, but then if I come in, he would hide all that. … We all gotta love our children no matter what they decide to and support them because they need that.”

It’s good to know that Johnson accepted his son for who he is instead of trying to change him. Magic has gone through some very emotional stuff in his life as well.

So, that must have helped Johnson to keep an open mind and not be dismissive of his son. All things considered, it’s good to see that Magic has a loving relationship with his son, EJ.
