Karl-Anthony Towns had a historical game on Monday night, scoring 60 points on the San Antonio Spurs to take the Minnesota Timberwolves to their 40th win of the season. Now the T-Wolves rank 7th in the Western Conference standings, trying to climb positions on the leaderboard.
KAT has shown that he can lead this team, even though a lot of people believed he didn’t have what it takes to become the first option in a competitive team. Towns is now balling and leading the Wolves in a conference with a lot of good teams.
He’s doing an amazing job and earned a lot of praise for his recent performance. However, one NBA legend took things a little too far and placed KAT among the 10 best players in the league, naming him an MVP candidate following his 60-PT explosion against the Spurs.
Magic Johnson congratulated Kyrie Irving on Tuesday night after he dropped 60 points on the Orlando Magic. Moreover, he also had flowers for Towns, calling him an MVP candidate after his impressive game.
“By scoring 60 points last night, superstar Karl Anthony-Towns put himself in the running for the NBA’s MVP!” Magic, a 3x NBA MVP tweeted on KAT.
By scoring 60 points last night, superstar Karl Anthony-Towns put himself in the running for the NBA's MVP!

This is a bold take from Magic, and NBA fans were quick to reply to the five-time NBA champion, calling him out for having several MVP candidates and only picking KAT after a single game.
W from Magic, I said he should be an candidate a week ago, but he's probably like 5th in MVPhttps://t.co/adJciNrF1X

Durant is one of the greatest scorers and never scored 60. People like MJ, Kobe, and LeBron did it a handful of times. 60 points is rare

6 seed Jokic is a MVP candidate. Bring up standings doesn't matter as much anymore these days. But tbf Jokic is unreal. But bringing up placement is a bad argument

You’re gonna say that after Kyrie dropped 60?

Magic I love you, but this is ridiculous

As much of a Karl Anthony Towns fan as I am, I do not agree that he is in the MVP conversation. I believe it’s a two man race between Joel Embiid and Jokic this year.
— Brandon Hitchcock (@jbhitch04) March 16, 2022
Jokic & KAT are both amazing but they're a 6 & 7 seed
It's Embiid & Giannis for the MVP
& Embiid is averaging 30 while keeping Philly near the top of the East through all Ben Simmons' drama & playing shorthanded
Final 15 games will determine the MVP

Everybody that has a good game is now in the mvp race?
— Coach Al (@695HOOPS) March 16, 2022
Yeah him and Kyrie are now front runners for mvp

If Jokic can at 6 and Luka can at 5 why can’t KAT be a couple games behind them 🤷🏻♂️

I don't think so magic. He's been great though. But there are only three people in the running for MVP. Giannis, Jokic and Embiid

Johnson really stirred the pot with his comments, but it’s not like he’ll stop voicing his opinion about anything NBA-related. He’s been very vocal about these topics, especially regarding his Los Angeles Lakers.
Tonight, KAT and his T-Wolves host the Lakers, trying to win the 41st game of the season and put another nail in the Lakers’ coffin. With an inspired Towns, Minnesota hopes to leave the arena with another W.
