- Magic star Jonathan Isaac launches a brand that can serve as an alternative to Nike
- Isaac was also in the news during the 2020 NBA Bubble
- He refused to support BLM and stood up for the national anthem
Magic star Jonathan Isaac stroked a controversy when he chose to stand during the national anthem while his teammates kneeled. Now, he is going into the world of athletic apparel with the launch of his brand, UNITUS.
The brand is founded on his Christian faith and dedication to American values, providing an alternative to what he perceives as “woke” retail brands like Nike. In an interview with Fox News, Jonathan Isaac opened up about why he launched a new brand:
“I didn’t want to align myself with the Black Lives Matter movement and organization. And I felt that a true answer to all the problems that we see, not just racism, was the gospel of Jesus Christ. So, I decided to stand up and share it.”
“When we do give our money to companies that don’t support our values, we’re cosigning their message. So, what I wanted to do was give Americans, freedom-loving Americans, faith-loving Americans the option to buy with their values.”
Isaac wanted to provide an option for consumers who share his faith and love for the United States. With UNITUS, Isaac aims to create a space where consumers can proudly embrace their beliefs and express them through their clothing choices.
Jonathan Isaac Is No Stranger To Controversy Himself
Isaac, who was playing for the Orlando Magic since 2017, made headlines for his actions during the national anthem and his decision not to kneel. With the Magic, Isaac averaged 9.0 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 1.0 APG, 1.1 SPG, and 1.1 BPG. He has had major injury problems in his career and missed the entire 2020-21 and the 2021-22 seasons due to torn left ACL and Meniscus.
During the Magic’s game against the Nets, all players and coaches from both teams kneeled during the national anthem as a show of solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and to raise awareness about racial injustice and police brutality. However, Isaac was the only player on either team who stood.

Isaac explained that he believed the answer to all problems, including racism, through Jesus Christ, and he did not want to align himself with the BLM movement. He also said his belief that standing during the anthem was a way for him to share his faith.
Isaac attracted a ton of reactions from this, most of them which were negative. While some praised him for sticking with his beliefs, many others were fuming about the Magic star. They accused him of not sticking with his brothers, who had committed to kneeling during the anthem.
Despite this, Isaac never wavered from his beliefs, and he hopes to help his community with the launch of his brand.
