Marcus Smart was the heart and soul of the Boston Celtics, which is why it was shocking to find out that he had been traded for Kristaps Porzingis in a three-team deal. While Boston got two first-round picks from the Memphis Grizzlies in the deal, it was shocking to see the Celtics move on from Smart.

The former Defensive Player of the Year addressed the rumors that he had a falling out with Jaylen Brown in an interview with the Boston Globe, calling him and Jayson Tatum his ‘brothers for life’.

“I actually want to clear up something I’ve seen online around because JB didn’t post something about me like JT did, that we had beef. Jayson and Jaylen are my brothers for life. I don’t think what people see [is accurate] on what and how our relationship really is. We’ve been through a lot together. We’ve been through fires.”

Smart was the longest-serving Celtic on the roster, passing that torch onto Jaylen Brown as he is expected to sign a long-term supermax extension keeping him at the team.

Marcus Smart Excited To Join The Grizzlies

Marcus Smart spoke to The Boston Globe about a number of topics, including the phone call where he was told he was being traded. Thankfully, Smart loves his new destination and spoke about Grizzlies as well.

“Right when I heard [about the trade], I was like at least I’m going somewhere to a team that wants me and a team that I can compete to hopefully try to win a championship. We’ve got a lot of great players on the Grizzlies and I’m very excited. I love the way that they play. I love the culture. And just like in Boston, I fit right in and it’s up my alley, the style of play and the mentality that they bring to the game.”

Smart is a former Defensive Player of the Year and averaged 11.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 6.3 assists last season. He will likely start alongside Desmond Bane in the backcourt while Ja Morant serves his 25-game suspension. His maturity will help the team in the locker room, and his hustle will make him fit seamlessly on the court.
