Matt Barnes is one of the most recognizable voices in sports media nowadays, running an extremely successful podcast with former teammate Stephen Jackson.

Even if his NBA playing days are far behind him, it seems Barnes has some controversies from back in the day still plaguing him. TMZ reported that Barnes has been ordered to pay $133,976.54 in child support to his ex-wife Gloria Govan.

Barnes infamously drove 3 hours to break into his own house and attack Derek Fisher for sleeping with Gloria. Barnes has been protective of his children before, which is why it’s surprising to know that he hasn’t paid child support in a very long time to help with his teenage twins, Carter and Isaiah.

Barnes used to allegedly pay $20,000 a month in child support when he was still in the league, with the amount being slashed to $7,500 a few years ago. Still failing to play despite his success as a retired athlete is disappointing to see.

Matt Barnes And The Fallout With His Wife

The story of Barnes beating up Derek Fisher is one that’s iconic but shows that Barnes is very protective of his family. Even after splitting up with Gloria, Barnes cared for his sons and didn’t want them to be put in an awkward position. He may have his griped on his ex-wife but not sending her child support payments for their two sons is not the best look.

Whether or not Barnes appeals this decision through official channels is unclear. He won’t just cough up that amount overnight, so this story is likely to keep developing over the next few months. Fisher ended up marrying Govan and buried the hatchet with Barnes, so maybe he serves as an intermediary in this situation.
