Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls were crowned champions of the NBA six times during the 1990s. Thanks to those titles, the MJ-led Bulls are now considered to be one of the best teams assembled in the history of the league. But that wasn’t always the case.

Prior to winning the championships, Jordan was criticized for being unable to make a dent in the postseason. But even after winning a few rings, many still didn’t believe that Michael Jordan‘s Chicago Bulls were truly the best team in the history of the league.

After all, prior to Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird were stars of the NBA. Their battles were legendary, and many believed either the Los Angeles Lakers or the Boston Celtics should be considered the best team in the league’s history.

Michael Jordan’s Promise To Magic Johnson And Larry Bird In 1992

The 1992 Dream Team was one of the best basketball teams to ever be assembled. It was done in order to help Team USA win the gold medal in the Olympics. As a result, a team was formed with players such as Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley, and many more.

There are many amazing stories regarding Mike during his days with The Dream Team, and most of them displayed the supreme confidence of the Bulls legend. Well, Jordan also apparently made a bold promise to Johnson and Bird when the team was in Barcelona.

Via The SportsRush:

“You haven’t even seen the best NBA team of all time yet. I’m just getting started. I’m going to win more championships than all of you guys. Tell you what. Let’s have this conversation after I’m done playing.”

“You aren’t winning five championships,” Magic protested.

“Michael, I’m going to steal at least one of them from you,” Barkley shot back.

The flurry of protests continued, with five of the greatest players in NBA history sparring over their own place in basketball history. Magic was indignant at the suggestion that the best team could be anyone other than his 1987 Lakers, the team he had determined was the finest of his title years.

Jordan didn’t only prove Magic wrong by winning six NBA Championships, he also didn’t let Barkley even win a single title. Among Jordan’s six iconic titles, his first one came against Magic, so that must have rubbed the Lakers legend in somewhat a wrong way. Anyway, this is just one of those stories that show how much confidence Jordan had in his ability to play elite basketball.
