Michael Jordan was in attendance to watch Tyler Reddick take the chequered flag in first place at the 2024 NASCAR Talladega Superspeedway race. He was interviewed after the race, where he revealed that 23XI co-owner Denny Hamlin said he was bad luck at the track.

“Well, Denny [Hamlin] keeps saying I was bad luck when I come to the track, and today we proved them wrong.”

Jordan spoke about the race itself, complimenting Tyler Reddick for the race and taking a shot at his role in the crash that took out frontrunner Michael McDowell.

“He did a good job at wrecking so we could get up front! I think Tyler did a good job. Unfortunately, Bubba couldn’t finish. The whole team did a good job. I am very happy to be here to see it. Everybody tells me, when we win, we can have a good celebration. This is the first time I’ve been here. To my wife, my kids, and everybody, yeah, we did it! I’m sorry I left you home.”

Jordan compared the race to the NBA Playoffs.

“As you know, it’s the NBA Playoffs right now. So this is like an NBA Playoff game to me. I am so ecstatic for the fans who support the sport itself and we’ve been working hard trying to get ourselves up to where we can compete against all the top guys in this sport.”

He got real on how racing has given his competitive spirit a new arena to compete in, though he can’t control a race the same way he could control winning on the basketball court.

“I’m all in. I love it. It replaces a lot of the competitiveness I had in basketball, but this is even worse because I have no control! In basketball, I have total control. So, I live vicariously through the drivers and crew chiefs, and everybody. I am very happy for 23XI, 110%.”

Michael Jordan was seen celebrating with Tyler Reddick’s son in his arms, the pair looking overjoyed at the win.

Jordan has completely severed ties with competitive basketball after selling his stake in the Charlotte Hornets over the summer of 2023. His focus has been on NASCAR fully, and watching results like what happened at Talladega has to be a rewarding feeling for him.

Michael Jordan Has Spent More Time With NASCAR

Jordan doesn’t need to do anything to occupy his time, given his role at his namesake Jordan Brand. However, he hasn’t been one to sit on his thumbs and rest on the laurels of his success.

Since selling the Hornets for $3 billion after purchasing it for $275 million in 2010, Jordan has focused more on his NASCAR team, according to co-owner Denny Hamlin

“He does. Certainly, he’s involved in more meetings. Now he wants to be on every branding e-mail. I’m like, ‘Oh boy, this could be interesting.’ So, yeah, I think he has some more time and perhaps he’s gonna use that more on the race team.”

If you want to see Jordan make a public appearance, watching NASCAR races is the way to go. He’s often appearing at the events his team participates in, often being seen alongside celebrities and other important people. He might be revered in basketball spaces, but he’s just another competitor in NASCAR.

It’s evident that the thrill from competing is something Jordan can’t replace, so these avenues will be the perfect way for him to continue that,
