Michael Jordan’s Love Letter Sold For Over $25,000 At Auction

Everybody wants anything that was roughly involved with Michael Jordan. Everything with his seat, handwriting, or signature is incredibly valuable, even his love letters.

That’s why, according to Darren Rovell, someone reached out to Iconic Auctions to buy a 20-page handwritten love letter written by Jordan in 1989 for $25,703.

The letter was sent from the Guest Quarters Suite Hotel in Troy, Michigan, and postmarked on July 11, 1989. However, instead of being addressed to his sweetheart – and wife – Juanita Vanoy, it was sent to Amy Hunter, a former actress, and model.

Apparently, Jordan and Hunter had an affair during the early years of his career, and Jordan apologized for not being able to carry on with it because of how he’d be perceived:

“Amy, sometimes I am the most selfish person on this earth because for one whole year all I thought about was Michael (…) I admit I made a mistake, but found it difficult to change it. Let’s say I do change the mistake. You would not believe the problems we would encounter. It is unthinkable. We wouldn‘t have a pleasant relationship or a private one. Our business up for opinions by the whole world. This is a pressure I can’t live with,” Jordan wrote.

Jordan and Vanoy already had a son during that time, so Jordan felt like that affair could ruin his image as the ultimate athlete and role model had the press got their hands into it:

“Amy, if I was Michael Jordan, the ordinary man with a 9 to 5 job, then it wouldn’t be hard to admit my mistake. But instead, I am the Michael Jordan who is put on the pedestal and viewed to be the perfect role model. A lot of people, not just kids, but whole families. Can you imagine the responsibilities I have to deal with. Not to mention a baby by a lady who I have loved for 3 1/2 years,” the GOAT added.

Vanoy and Jordan eventually got a divorce in 2002 so perhaps he’d have another shot at pursuing happiness with Hunter, but given how private he keeps his own affairs, it seems like we’ll never know.

On a related note, the same love letter was apparently sold a couple of times in the past, with someone paying $2,560 for it before its value escalated x10 after ‘The Last Dance’.
