Giannis Antetokounmpo is undoubtedly the pivotal centerpiece of the Milwaukee Bucks and the attention will be on the contract extension for the superstar this September.
And while Bucks GM Jon Horst did not have a comprehensive answer to renewing Giannis’ contract that expires at the end of the 2025-26 season, he most definitely had the standard “we want him back” reply. According to Eric Nehm of The Athletic:
“I mean, that’s our job. He is the most incredible human, superstar, teammate, and leader, I believe, in all of sports and we’re incredibly blessed to have him. It’s an awesome responsibility to win and compete every year to be in a position to keep him. I think that’s my job and that’s my responsibility and it’s my opportunity and his opportunity and our team’s opportunity.”
He further added:
“And Griff and (Bucks president) Peter Feigin share in that, as do our owners. I think it’s really cool to have that chance to be able to do that. We’ve been able to do it so far, and we’ll do everything we can to do it again.”
Giannis inked a mammoth five-year max contract extension with the franchise in 2020 worth $228.2 million. Since then, the Bucks benefited by winning their first NBA title in 2021.
This past season, the Bucks were trounced by the Miami Heat in the first round of the playoffs. But Giannis had a stellar season averaging 31.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists.
The ongoing offseason was busy, as the team retained their core by re-signing Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez. They also shopped around the league, adding Jae Crowder, Malik Beasley, and AJ Green.
Giannis and the Bucks have looked formidable in the regular season, now with the set players back in the fold, it remains to be seen if they can go the distance this season.
Will Giannis Antetokounmpo Sign An Extension Later This Season?
The Bucks are now entering a new era after they moved on from Mike Budenholzer. Adrian Griffin will be taking over at Fiserv Forum, and Giannis is reportedly excited to working him.
Perhaps this can convince the player to extend his stay with the Bucks, but next season will be crucial to make that decision. Giannis is unlikely to sign that extension this year, which makes more franchises keen on landing him.
