Kevin Durant couldn’t hide his feelings as found about the top ratings on NBA 2K25 during a promotional video on Boardroom with Durant and NFL star Sauce Gardner. Durant tried guessing the top 10 players on the game, with Gardner revealing the overalls to him, but the Suns forward couldn’t get over his 94 rating.

“I’m a 94? That’s crazy. I’m sick of this sh*t…  That’s crazy, I’m a 94 though? Like for real, that’s crazy. I’ma have to get on somebody’s a*s about that.”

Durant ranked No. 9 in this year’s NBA 2K, something he feels hard done by. There’s no doubt that he’s still one of the best players in the NBA, with the former two-time Finals MVP averaging 27.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.0 assists last season before winning Gold with Team USA at the Paris Olympics.

Kevin Durant has been above 90 overall on NBA 2K11, which saw him get his first 91 overall rating. His 94 overall in NBA 2K25 is the lowest rating he’s had since NBA 2K17 when he was a 93 overall. He was the cover athlete for the game in NBA 2K15 and was one of three players on the cover for NBA 2K13.

How Jayson Tatum Landed The Cover Of NBA 2K25

This year’s NBA 2K25 features recent NBA Champion Jayson Tatum on the cover, who is a 95 overall and one of the many players ranked ahead of Durant in ratings. NBA 2K Community Manager Ronnie2K explained why Tatum was chosen as the cover for this season’s game, breaking down everything that goes into the decision-making process.

“Yeah, the cover athlete is really picked in in my mind and always has been in three ways.”

“Number one, are they authentic to our brand and do they play our game? I actually released this video when we announced Jayson of like how we kind of built this road to the cover since his rookie year.”

“Number two is trajectory. We don’t make the cover, we don’t figure out the cover in June, right? It’s he won the championship, but we haven’t had a championship cover star since I believe Steph Curry in 2K16, so it’s been a while. So, everybody, consumers are always like, ‘put the Finals MVP on there.'”

“Finally for number three, it’s about how we build either the game or what the story we’re trying to tell is with marketing. That’s a big one for us. So he really aligned with some of the things that we haven’t shown yet and we were going to show. Also, and and then just what we’re doing with marketing. ‘Ball Over Everything.’ He really aligns with that catchphrase.”

NBA 2K covers are a massive honor for many players, with Tatum making it for the first time. Last year’s cover featured the late Kobe Bryant and it was a great honor for the legend.
