LeBron James has been linked to numerous teams after he took a shot at the Los Angeles Lakers front office, and one of the NBA analysts ruled out Chicago Bulls as one of the landing spots.
The Bulls have been speculated as one of the sides heading into a rebuild following the inability of their big three to close out games. The team has since changed that perception by winning four of their last six games.
Soon after James took his shot after LA’s 112-98 loss to the Miami Heat, rumor mills of the Bulls making a beeline for the veteran did the rounds, but CBS Sports‘ Sam Quinn explained why the Windy City wasn’t the ideal place for the forward.
The Bulls haven’t won a championship since Jordan’s retirement. James might relish the opportunity to change that … and team up with beloved former teammate Alex Caruso in the process… Zach LaVine and Lonzo Ball are Klutch clients, and DeMar DeRozan was a guest on LeBron’s unsanctioned 2021 offseason ripoff of The Bachelor.
The real question here is whether the Bulls can even contend with James? They’re 15-19 as currently constructed while rapidly getting older and incurring more injury risk.
Quite simply, Quinn opined that the Bulls wouldn’t help James win another title, given their roster build.
LeBron James To The Miami Heat?
Rumor mills were abuzz that James could go back to one of his former teams, the Miami Heat.
Quinn felt that James could go to the Heat, and the Lakers would have Kyle Lowry and three first-round picks. He also added that the LA might ask for Tyler Herro to be included in the deal.
Miami could offer three first-round picks along with Lowry as the primary matching salary. The Lakers would probably ask for Tyler Herro. That would be the sticking point in negotiations. The last time the Lakers and Heat made a trade of this magnitude, the Lakers tried a similar staredown involving Dwyane Wade and blinked.
They ultimately sent Shaquille O’Neal to the Heat for Lamar Odom, Caron Butler and Brian Grant. It’s hard not to draw parallels to that trade when speculating about this one. Both deals began with an aging legend growing frustrated as the Lakers prioritized the future over the present.
At the time of writing, the word from the Lakers camp was that they were keen to end their current season with the same roster, especially after Anthony Davis’ injury that’s believed to have changed their plans.
Only time will tell if the Lakers can fit the right pieces around James. Earlier, it was reported that they were one of the teams alongside the New York Knicks who were generating the early buzz in trade talks. Safe to say, the will-they-won’t-they will continue till close to the trade deadline.
