Fresh off an appearance in the NBA Finals, the Boston Celtics were the closest they’ve come to winning a title since before the start of the Jayson Tatum era.
Together, Tatum and his co-star Jaylen Brown formed a formidable one-two punch that proved difficult for most teams to beat.
But amid rumblings about Jaylen’s potential involvement in a Kevin Durant trade, there are questions about how long Brown will actually remain with the C’s. If it was up to him, Jaylen would probably stay with the team for life, as one NBA executive noted in an article by Heavy’s Steve Bulpett.
“I think Jaylen IS long term,” the NBA executive said. “If they want him long term and they’re going to pay him the contract he deserves, I think he’s all-in on Boston. From everything I’ve been told, Jaylen’s a loyal guy. I know frustration can happen when things aren’t going well, and I think we saw some of that earlier in this past season.”
“But when you take a step back and look at things, I think he wants to be there. And any problems that could ever happen with that relationship would probably have to come from him getting the idea that they’re not in on him. And right now I don’t see that from the Celtics. I think they know what they have in Jaylen — now and for the future — and they want to keep that going.”
A guy of Kevin Durant’s caliber might be enough to push the Celtics over the top as championship contenders. His game paired with Jayson Tatum might just form the best duo in the league.
But loyalty is hard to come by nowadays, and the Celtics shouldn’t take Jaylen’s loyalty lightly. As a young and well-rounded wing player with loads of potential, he’s someone who could help the Celtics compete for the next 10 years.
Can the same be said about 33-year-old Kevin Durant?
