The Dallas Mavericks have progressed to their first second-round playoff series since they won the 2011 Championship. Despite missing Luka Doncic for the first three games of the series, the Mavericks fought admirably while being led by Jalen Brunson. The Utah Jazz couldn’t match up to the Mavs on both ends and have been eliminated in the first round in two of the last three seasons.

The Utah Jazz went down in a heap of smoke after terrible late-game possessions that saw Mike Conley called for a traveling violation, followed by Bojan Bogdanovic missing a wide-open three that would have stretched this to a Game 7.

Fans have gone in on the Jazz, with their sloppy late-game play and confirmation through another playoff exit that Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert no longer work as teammates. People are calling for the end of the experiment, meaning we may have seen the last game of the Mitchell-Gobert duo for the Jazz.

While the Jazz head into a possible rebuild, the Dallas Mavericks will now take on the Phoenix Suns in a seven-game series in the second round. The Suns are the best team in the league but dropped two games in their first-round series against the New Orleans Pelicans. The Suns secured qualification earlier tonight when they won their Game 6.

The Mavericks will look to pounce early in the series, especially with Devin Booker still working his way back from a hamstring injury. If Dallas can steal home court in the first two games of the series, they will put themselves in a strong position to make a run to the Conference Finals.

The other side of the West is awaiting the results of the Memphis vs. Minnesota series, as the Golden State Warriors wait to find out who they will face in their second round. The Mavericks may have ended the Jazz as we know it, but Phoenix is going to be a very tall task.
