Carmelo Anthony was one of the best players of his era, and among the greatest pure scorers the game has ever seen. Anthony’s impact on the game is quickly being forgotten but before his failure to lead a team to a championship, Melo was regularly considered one of the best players that the NBA had to offer.

As his career passed by without a Finals appearance or an MVP, fans quickly started to forget Anthony as he aged out of the league earlier than expected. He held on as a role-player for 3 additional seasons but is now a free agent. LaMelo Ball of the Charlotte Hornets, on the other hand, is an All-Star and expected to be one of the future stars of the NBA.

Children in a basketball gym were asked which player they think of when they say ‘Melo,’ and most of the responses referred to the younger LaMelo Ball. Older NBA fans were not happy about this and were stunned at how Anthony is being forgotten.

Ball still has a long way to go if he hopes to even equal Carmelo’s career accomplishments. Anthony did take poor teams to the playoffs, even overachieving with the Denver Nuggets and reaching a Conference Finals. LaMelo is yet to even make the playoffs, though his Hornets team is arguably the worst in the league.

Will Carmelo Anthony Return To The NBA?

The Lakers chose to get younger and not bring back Carmelo this season, which has left Anthony without a job since the start of the year. Though there was interest from teams like the Boston Celtics and former team New York Knicks, it didn’t materialize and Carmelo continues waiting by the phone for an opportunity.

We might have seen his last game in the NBA and the way he went out was a shame. At least he got to be one of the few bright spots on the Lakers last season and got to redeem his nasty split with the Houston Rockets with 3 productive years as a role-player in the NBA, making the playoffs twice with the Portland Trail Blazers.
