The Los Angeles Lakers have lost several games this season and it seems to be catching up with the team. Frank Vogel’s job has been rumored to be on the line barely 2 years after they won the NBA title, and even announcers are trolling the Lakers in the middle of their games. So it’s no surprise that the team and Vogel himself are finding it hard to do their jobs to the best of their abilities, as was evidenced during the blowout loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday.

The Lakers ended up losing the game by 28 points and found themselves down by 30 at a point during the 4th quarter. Any coach would struggle to motivate his team at a point like that but Vogel’s attempt to do so was roundly criticized when fans online heard what he had to say.

“Pretend we’re down fifteen right here.”

This clip went viral on Reddit, where fans were quick to make fun of Vogel considering that his advice to pretend that they’re down 15 points puts into context how truly bad the situation was for the Lakers against the Pelicans.

ahr2410: “If you don’t love me at 110-80, you don’t deserve me at 100-85.”

Currymvp: “This makes Bud’s “play random” look inspiring.”

mezzymezi: “The voice of somebody all out of ideas.”

jruegod11: “Pretend you’re 15 years younger right now.”

wassyboy: “Imagine losing by so much that you pretend you’re down by fewer double digits.”

jawadhaque: “This is the SpongeBob episode of rock bottom.”

PenlandBoys: “Pretend we’re in the finals right now.”

FlipinoooFlash: “I feel bad for this guy even though he’s made some questionable decisions. He has a defensive philosophy and has a bunch of old stiff guys on the team trying to implement it.”

onamonoapizza: “You just gotta get that first 15….then you can focus on the next 15.”

TangieChords: “Wish we could see the actual score during this moment.”

Things are looking quite dire for the Los Angeles Lakers at this moment and the best-case scenario seems to be the play-in tournament. There’s not much that can change with the roster after they didn’t end up making any moves at the trade deadline and outside of the players seeing an epic resurgence in form, the Lakers appear to be in real danger of finishing the season below .500.
