  • Damian Lillard has now landed in Milwaukee after his blockbuster trade to the Bucks
  • Fans gathered in droves to welcome Lillard
  • Lillard and the Bucks are now title favorites

Damian Lillard arrived in Milwaukee on Saturday, and Bucks fans gathered outside Fiserv Forum to give a grand welcome to their new star point guard. Lillard received a rousing reception from the crowd, and he was all smiles as he walked into the arena.

I honestly can’t remember the last time a player got this kind of welcome on arrival. Bucks fans are incredibly ecstatic about Lillard being on their team, and they cannot wait to see the seven-time All-Star and Giannis Antetokounmpo in action together.

NBA Fans Reacted To The Grand Welcoming

Safe to say I wasn’t the only one blown away by just how many people showed up here, just to see Lillard for a couple of minutes. NBA fans were also surprised by this grand welcoming of the 33-year-old.

One hilariously said Lillard got a parade for just coming to the Bucks, “Bro got a parade for just being there.”

A Bucks fan said this was a better parade than the one they had when they won the title, “We got a better parade for Dame than when we won the damn ring.”

One fan took a shot at Portland, “Milwaukee did more for him in a day than Portland did in 10 years.”

A Bucks fan explained why Dame’s arrival is such a big deal for them, “I’m from Milwaukee and this is a big deal. S*** like this don’t ever happen, we got lucky with Giannis but we drafted him but superstars don’t sign to Milwaukee this huge for Milwaukee.”

One took a shot at Lillard, “Only parade he’s getting.”

The explanation by that fan for their excitement does give you a better understanding of what they are feeling. Superstars never go to Milwaukee in free agency, and the last really big name that the Bucks acquired via trade might just be Oscar Robertson back in 1971.

Jrue Holiday wasn’t really a star when they traded for him in 2020 and Gary Payton was past his best when he was acquired from the Seattle Supersonics in 2003. Lillard is at the back end of his prime but is still producing at a high level, having averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game last season.

It Is Now Well And Truly Championship Or Bust For The Bucks

The 2023-24 season was already kind of championship or bust for Milwaukee after Giannis hinted at a potential breakup with the Bucks. He had made it clear that he wouldn’t have any issues leaving if another team put him in a better position to win another championship.

With this trade, it is now well and truly championship or bust. The Bucks are the favorites to win it all, and anything less than a championship would be seen as a failure.

Antetokounmpo and Lillard are clearly, for me, the best duo in the league, as they complement each other ever so well. They’ve got a decent supporting cast too, in Brook Lopez, Khris Middleton, and Bobby Portis, and Milwaukee’s starting lineup now looks stacked.

Another factor in the Bucks’ favor, is that Lillard is going to be extremely motivated. The Portland Trail Blazers were never a serious contender during his time there, and he now finally has a team around him that can compete for a title. Lillard called it a dream come true to play with Giannis on a championship team, and he is going to be a man on a mission to make it count.
