NBA Fans React To Gary Payton II Failing His Physical With The Warriors: “Welcome Back, James Wiseman”

The development came as worrying news for the Warriors faithful.

Gary Payton II’s return to the Golden State Warriors was good news for the fans, but the celebrations quickly turned into a dampener.

The guard failing the physical test saw reports of the deal considered to be in “serious jeopardy”. Payton II missed several games for the Portland Trail Blazers due to his core injury that may very well sideline him for three months.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the news saying the deal had hit a snag and could be rescinded.

Gary Payton II — the Warriors high-profile trade deadline acquisition — could miss two-to-three months after a core muscle issue showed up in his physical on Friday morning, league sources confirmed to The Athletic, putting the four-team deal between the Warriors, Pistons, Hawks and Blazers in jeopardy. The Warriors ruled him as a failed physical on Friday, and have until Saturday to go through with the deal as a technical pass of the physical or rescind the entire trade.

His last game was earlier this Wednesday which he ended with 9 points, 3 rebounds, and a steal. Apparently, the NBA champion was playing with the injury all the while.

Payton II was part of a trade that included the Atlanta Hawks and the Detroit Pistons, who acquired Saddiq Bey and James Wiseman as part of a 4-team agreement.

Needless to say, this was glum news for the Warriors faithful who were worried that the deal would fall apart.

The other segment saw some conspiracy theories and trolling emerge even as the Warriors mull their options. Here are some of the responses:

Gonna be real awkward if all the traded players return to their teams

We’ve made a huge mistake.

Wasn’t there that leak that one of the reasons GP2 was traded was because he told the FO he didn’t want to be there?

I think I read across something this morning like GP2 said everyone wanted to leave the Blazers

What were the Blazers even doing with GP2? He was playing like 2 nights ago. And all of a sudden he has a 3-month injury?

Portland’s track record with injury management ? Any idea?

Dame had been playing through an injury for over a year and just got surgery last year. This seems like serious mismanagement by the Blazers for their players

Wiseman walks back into the Warriors gym

Surely this could work, there’s nothing a bunch of 2nds can’t fix. Right?

If there was ever a time for the league to make an exception it would be now.

A failed trade comes as a major blow to the Warriors, who will now have to decide between keeping an injured star in a season that they’re desperate to win.

The Warriors will miss Payton II’s defensive prowess and athleticism should the deal fall apart.
