The Portland Trail Blazers drafted Scoot Henderson with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, electing to keep the point guard despite various trade rumors. It is easy to see why they decided to do so, as he has elite slashing and playmaking ability with All-NBA potential.

It was recently revealed that Scoot Henderson would elect to wear jersey No. 00 with the Portland Trail Blazers. A lot of fans reacted to the news. One fan claimed that he is ready to take over from Damian Lillard. As of now, Lillard wears No. 0 for the Trail Blazers.

Another person suggested that this announcement means that Damian Lillard will leave the Portland Trail Blazers.

One fan seemed excited about the potential of a “triple zero” backcourt of Henderson and Lillard.

Some joked that Henderson’s jersey number represents the number of games he’ll play with Lillard.

There were suggestions that Henderson could switch to the regular No. 0 soon, with the poster seemingly insinuating that Damian Lillard will get traded.

One person suggested that the reason for this jersey choice was because Scoot Henderson has double O letters in his first name.

There were people who proclaimed Scoot Henderson “the next Hoodie Melo”. Carmelo Anthony notably wore No. 00 during his time with the Portland Trail Blazers.

It is highly doubtful that Scoot Henderson’s jersey choice implies anything other than this being his favored number. However, that definitely didn’t stop fans from making all kinds of assumptions.

During the 2022-23 season with the G-League Ignite, Scoot Henderson averaged 16.5 PPG, 5.3 RPG, and 6.8 APG while shooting 42.9% from the field and 27.5% from the 3PT range. Though he is clearly a talented player, he’ll need to improve his efficiency to be a star in the league.

Some People Are Not All The Way Sold On Scoot Henderson

There is no doubt that a lot of fans believe in Scoot Henderson’s potential and what he could become. However, not everyone is sold, with one scout suggesting that there are “holes in his game”.

“Scoot’s got a chance (to be great). But I worry about Scoot’s mindset, in terms of how hard he has to work,” the scout told league insider David Aldridge. “I don’t want to say they handed everything to him, but they obviously built that whole G League thing around him the last couple of years. He carried himself with an air of I’ve arrived. And I think he’s going to be in for a rude awakening when he gets to the NBA. I could be way off base. There’s some holes in his game.”

It will be interesting to see how Scoot Henderson’s game translates to the NBA. A lot of rookies end up struggling their first season, but with Henderson’s talent, that may not be an issue.
