The Portland Trail Blazers are an organization in arguably the weirdest place in the NBA. They have a bonafide superstar in Damian Lillard, but they have consistently failed to put a true contending team around him. Multiple versions of the Blazers have been unable to win, but Lillard’s loyalty and commitment to staying with the franchise mean he is still waiting for a team that can dominate the league.

The Portland Trail Blazers retooled around Damian Lillard when they let go of CJ McCollum, bringing in the likes of Jerami Grant and developing the promising Anfernee Simons. But even after that and spending a season getting a top pick, the Blazers are poor this season. They have lost 12 of their last 17 games and are sitting in 13th in the Western Conference, even Lillard is frustrated. Despite this, the latest reports are saying the team will continue to build around Dame.

It’s easy to understand why the franchise won’t let him go, but for Lillard, he will soon be running the risk of retiring without reaching the Finals. Loyalty is important, but a player of his quality deserves a proper shot at winning it all. In any case, that seems to be the consensus among NBA fans reacting to the news.

NBA Fans Want The Portland Trail Blazers To Let Damian Lillard Go

His incredible scoring and shooting ability, combined with his charismatic personality, have made Dame a favorite for many fans in the league. And they want to see him compete at the very highest level, so the reactions to the report on social media are all fans asking the team to let him go.

“Worst team builders of all time.”

“Please let him go already, I’m on my knees.”

“Bro Dame need to get up outta there.”

“Give it up dawg you runnin out of time.”

“They’ve been committed his entire career and yet have never come close and never will come close to building a contending roster for him.”

“I can’t with these clowns anymore.”

“Damian Lillard deserves so much better than this.”

“What moves they even gonna make man smh.”

“If they’re going to make one more attempt to build a championship core around Dame, it needs to start with a legitimate rim protector.”

“Feels like they been saying this for 30 years.”

“This is unbelievable.”

Damian Lillard is averaging nearly 30 points per game this season and has been carrying the team despite their terrible record. In his last 7 games alone, Lillard has averaged nearly 37 points per game, and the Blazers have managed to lose 4 of those. The clock is ticking both for Dame and his beloved franchise.
