NBA Insider Says A Kevin Durant To Miami Trade Would Require A Third Team: “Tyler Herro, As The Main Trade Chip For The Heat, Wouldn’t Scratch The Surface Of What The Nets Want.”

Kevin Durant has been the talk of the NBA world ever since he shockingly requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets a couple of days back. A player of his caliber being made available for trade has unsurprisingly led to teams rushing to find a package that the Nets would be willing to accept for KD.

That is still a lot easier said than done, though. The Nets are open to trading Durant, but they’re demanding what would amount to being the biggest trade package in NBA history in return, as KD has 4 years left on his deal. The Heat were reported to be one of two teams that Durant had listed as his preference, but a trade to Miami looks unlikely unless a third team is involved, as a package headlined by Tyler Herro just won’t cut it here.

KD apparently only wants to join the Heat if they keep Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Kyle Lowry, which leaves Herro being the best player they can offer, but Michael Scotto makes it clear that the Nets wouldn’t even consider that. Reports have indicated the Nets want multiple All-Star caliber players for Durant, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise to anyone. While Herro had a fine campaign in 2021-22 that saw him crowned as Sixth Man of the Year, he is not at that level just yet and the Heat need to find a third team if they are to land KD.

Even with a third team, however, keeping that aforementioned trio is going to be difficult as that third party would also need some worthwhile compensation, so a move to Miami just seems unlikely for KD at the moment. Things can change, of course, and this KD saga has a lot of twists and turns left in it.
