As the 15th seed in the West, there is no denying that the Houston Rockets are in pretty rough shape right now. But when you consider the trajectory of their young core, and specifically former first overall pick Kevin Porter Jr., it brings the level of concern up to a different level.

Speaking on ‘The Lowe Post’ this week, NBA Draft insider Jonathan Givony became the latest to sound the alarm as ripped the current regime in Houston and made the case for the Rockets to cut all ties with Porter Jr.

“I’m worried about Jalen green because I haven’t seen any improvement in his decision-making and his defense since he entered the league… if you get the GM job tomorrow, you get in there you fire the coach, you get rid of Kevin Porter. Non-guaranteed contract, you just cut him. You’re sending a signal to the league that we’re gonna do things differently from here on out. When you talk to people around the NBA about Houston, you just don’t hear good things about their culture. People that are on that team are like ‘we are a mess.'”

The bad news for the Rockets is that non of their young guys have shown much improvement since entering the league. Besides Alperen Sengun, nobody has stepped up their game or taken the reigns as a leader and the culture appears to be getting worse with each passing season.

The good news for the Rockets is that help may be on the way. As the team with the worst record in basketball, Houston is leading the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes. apparently, though, the return of James Harden is also on the table for them despite years of miserable basketball.

Will James Harden Return To Houston?

While Harden is thriving in Philadelphia, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon recently reported that the Beard is strongly considering a return to his former team. Houston is apparently a place he still frequents often and the Neard himself has yet to deny rumors of being interested in a return there.

While Harden alone would not suddenly make the Rockets contenders, he could drastically reshape their trajectory and set them up for success and troubling and disappointing times.
